“I only wanna lose weight in my stomach”

Misconceptions
Too many people come to me thinking they can target fat areas. “I only want to lose fat in my stomach and arms, but I don’t want to get bulky,” they’ll say.

Science
Target fat loss, often referred to as spot reduction, is not possible, and there’s no solid scientific evidence to suggest that you can burn fat on specific areas of your body. Where you lose fat first comes down to your sex, genetics, and body shape.

Steps to take
So now that we know we can’t target certain fat areas. Where do we go from here?

First, we have to understand that it all comes down to calories in and calories out. Everybody’s body is different. So it’s important to download a fitness app (A few we like: LoseIt, MyFitnessPal, Noom) to determine your calorie intake for the day. An app can also help you track your food.

Second, we’ve got to look closer at the types of food we’re putting into our bodies. In my opinion, there’s no perfect diet. Focus on the quality of the foods. Choose whole foods and local, fresh products whenever possible.

Finally, we’ve got to make a plan and stick to it! Consistency is the key to success. 🔑

Your homework

  1. Download a calorie counting app.

  2. Determine your calorie intake with an app.

  3. Set a plan in motion.

Now it’s up to you to follow through. If you catch yourself slipping, remind yourself your reasons for starting in the first place. In the end, it’s all up to you, and no one can do it for you.

Now go be great!
